Hydration vs Moisturizing: Do you know the difference?
August 28, 2017

Could it be that your hair is thirsty? Indeed! The most common problem we hear from clients as hairstylists is that their hair is dry. As a Cosmetologist I always ask my hair clients if it's their scalp that is dry or their hair? Usually when I ask this a look of confusion fills their face. In order for me to prescribe the right remedy I have to know if it's your scalp, your hair or both. These are two different conditions needing two different types of remedies.
Dry hair is dehydration. Dehydrated hair lacks water and therefore needs to be hydrated. Dry Scalp on the other hand lacks oil and needs to be moisturized.
I have noticed that a lot of people are moisturizing but not hydrating which oddly enough causes dry and brittle hair. Too much protein can cause build up and breakage. It's not enough time in the world to discuss that topic. However, your stylist spent many hours in Cosmetology school to educate you on this very subject. If you are feeling any of these symptoms, contact your hairstylist and come up with a game plan.
Here at Di Di Payne Artistry we recommend Steam Hydration therapy for our thirsty hair clients and Ruby's Roots Lemon Souffle for their moisture. These aren't the only products in stock that we use , each product used to hydrate and moisturize is client specific.
